Crimson Pygmy Dwarf Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Crimson Pygmy' or 'Atropurpurea Nana') is a compact and slow-growing deciduous shrub that offers year-round interest. This dwarf cultivar of Japanese barberry features deep red-purple foliage that turns an even more intense red in the fall, making it an excellent accent plant in the landscape. It grows to a height and spread of around 2-3 feet, with a dense, mounding habit that is ideal for edging, mass planting, or container gardening. The Crimson Pygmy barberry is easy to care for and is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions and full sun to partial shade. It is also highly deer-resistant and attracts birds with its small, bright red berries.
