Longstalk Holly
Longstalk Holly (Ilex pedunculosa) is a species of holly native to parts of Asia, particularly in China, Korea, Japan, and Russia's Far East. This evergreen shrub or small tree is characterized by its distinctive long peduncles (stems) that support the flowers and fruits. The leaves are glossy, elliptical to lance-shaped, with serrated edges, adding to its ornamental appeal. In the spring, small white to pale yellow flowers bloom, attracting pollinators. Female plants produce round, scarlet berries, a key feature of holly plants, adding beauty and attracting birds. Longstalk Holly is appreciated for its cold tolerance and adaptability to various soil types, making it a favored choice for both ornamental and landscape purposes, including hedges, borders, and garden specimens, providing year-round interest.
