Katsura Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum 'Katsura' is a beautiful and popular Japanese maple cultivar that is highly prized for its stunning foliage and graceful form. This small deciduous tree typically grows to a height of 15-20 feet and a spread of 10-15 feet, with a rounded, somewhat vase-shaped habit. The leaves are deeply lobed and emerge in the spring with a lovely soft green color that matures to a vibrant orange-red in the fall. 'Katsura' is a relatively fast-growing maple that prefers partial shade and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is hardy in USDA zones 5-8 and is ideal for use as a specimen tree, in a mixed border, or in a Japanese-style garden.
