Beni Kawa Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum 'Beni Kawa' is a deciduous Japanese maple cultivar known for its striking red bark and vibrant green leaves. 'Beni Kawa' grows to a height of around 10-15 feet with a similar spread. The leaves are deeply lobed and typically have five to seven pointed lobes. They emerge in spring a bright green color, turning to a darker shade in summer and then orange, red, or gold in the fall. What sets 'Beni Kawa' apart from other Japanese maple varieties is its vivid coral-red bark. The bark color is most intense in the winter months when the tree is dormant, and it is a striking contrast against the snowy landscape. This cultivar is relatively easy to grow and is adaptable to a range of soil types, but it prefers moist, well-draining soil and partial shade. It's also quite hardy and can tolerate temperatures as low as -20 F.
