Pacific Brilliance Pin Oak
The Pacific Brilliance Pin Oak (Quercus palustris 'PWJR08') is a cultivar of the Pin Oak, a deciduous tree native to North America. It is known for its striking fall color and attractive, pyramidal shape. The Pacific Brilliance Pin Oak typically reaches a height of 60 to 70 feet with a spread of 25 to 40 feet, forming a compact and upright crown. It has deeply lobed, glossy green leaves that turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and bronze in the autumn, creating a beautiful display. The tree's bark is smooth and grayish-brown, becoming rougher and more fissured with age. The Pacific Brilliance Pin Oak is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including wet or poorly drained soils, hence its species name "palustris," which means "of the marsh." It prefers full sun to partial shade and is relatively low-maintenance once established. This cultivar is valued for its improved resistance to powdery mildew and better tolerance to drought compared to other Pin Oak varieties. The Pacific Brilliance Pin Oak is commonly planted in landscapes, parks, and larger residential areas where its autumn color and overall ornamental value can be appreciated.
