Vine Maple
Acer circinatum
Vine maple, (Acer circinatum) is a deciduous tree native to the Pacific Northwest. Vine maple grows to a height of around 25-30 feet with a multi-stemmed and spreading growth habit. Ideal for use in woodland gardens and shady landscapes. Bright green, deeply lobed leaves turn to brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. Small, yellow-green flowers bloom in the spring, followed by pairs of winged samaras in the summer. Generally considered low-maintenance, it prefers moist, well-draining soil and partial shade. It can, however, tolerate a range of soil types and growing conditions. Vine maple is often used in landscaping as a specimen tree or as an understory tree in mixed woodland gardens.
