Carnival Hedge Maple
Acer campestre 'Carnival' is a cultivar of the common maple tree, also known as the field maple or hedge maple. A deciduous tree native to Europe and western Asia, it's often grown for ornamental value in gardens and parks. The 'Carnival' cultivar is known for its variegated leaves, which are green with creamy white margins. The leaves are lobed with 5-7 points. In the autumn, they turn a golden yellow color before falling off. This cultivar is typically smaller than the species, growing to a height of around 8-10 feet with a similar spread. It has a relatively slow growth rate and is tolerant of a range of soil types, but prefers moist, well-draining soil. Acer campestre 'Carnival' is often used as a specimen tree in small gardens or as a hedge plant. It's low-maintenance and doesn't need much pruning, but can benefit from a light trimming in the winter to maintain its shape.
