Actinidia arguta
Actinidia arguta, commonly known as the hardy kiwi or kiwi berry, is a deciduous vine that is native to eastern Russia, China, Korea, and Japan. It is a member of the same genus as the kiwifruit but produces smaller, grape-sized fruit that is smooth-skinned and does not need to be peeled. The fruit is typically green when unripe and turns brownish-red when fully ripe, with a sweet and tangy flavor. Actinidia arguta is a fast-growing and vigorous vine that can reach a height of up to 30 feet, and is typically grown on trellises or arbors. It has attractive heart-shaped leaves and fragrant white or pinkish flowers in the spring. Actinidia arguta is hardy to USDA zones 4-8 and is a popular fruiting plant for home gardens, due to its delicious fruit, ease of cultivation, and ornamental value. It prefers well-drained soil and full sun to part shade.
