Skyline Honeylocust
The Skyline Honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos f. inermis 'Skycole') is a cultivar of the Honeylocust tree known for its upright, columnar growth habit and exceptional tolerance to urban conditions. This deciduous tree typically reaches a height of 40 to 60 feet with a narrow spread of around 25 feet. Its compact and slender form makes it an ideal choice for landscapes with limited space or for lining streets and avenues. The Skyline Honeylocust features pinnately compound leaves that emerge in a vibrant green color during the spring and transform into a rich golden-yellow shade in the fall, creating a striking visual display. Unlike some other Honeylocust varieties, the Skyline cultivar is thornless, making it safe and convenient for urban environments. It is also valued for its adaptability to a wide range of soil conditions, including clay and alkaline soils. The tree prefers full sun exposure and is known for its excellent drought tolerance. With its upright growth habit, attractive foliage, and resilience, the Skyline Honeylocust is a popular choice for adding vertical interest and urban tolerance to various landscaping projects.
