Cornus kousa 'Wolf Eyes'
Cornus kousa 'Wolf Eyes' is a cultivar of the Kousa dogwood tree, native to Japan, Korea, and China. This ornamental tree is a small deciduous shrub that typically grows up to 10 feet tall and wide at maturity. The most distinctive feature of this cultivar is its variegated foliage, which is green with white margins that turn pink in the fall. This unique coloration provides interest throughout the growing season, and the fall colors are particularly striking. In late spring, the tree produces small clusters of white flowers, followed by pink to red fruit that resembles raspberries. These fruit are edible, but not commonly eaten. 'Wolf Eyes' is easy to grow and requires minimal maintenance. It prefers well-drained soil and partial shade to full sun, and it is relatively pest and disease-resistant. It's an excellent choice for small gardens or as an accent plant in a mixed border. Its variegated foliage and compact size make it ideal for use in containers or as a specimen plant. When planted in groups, it can also create a stunning mass of variegated color and texture.
